About us

steve-griffithSteve Griffith is a product of assessment centers. In 1979, the Chief of Police for Belliare Police Department, J.H. Loftin used assessment centers for promotion. As a newly hired officer, Steve participated in every promotional process available. The Assessment Center Process allowed him to show his skills. He promoted through the ranks and left Bellaire Police Department, as a Captain, to take his first Police Chief’s job at West University Place. Steve believed in the Assessment Center Process. So, he did what every new Chief does, use what you know works. Like Chief Loftin, Steve brought in a professor from Sam Houston State University to conduct the first promotional process in his new agency. The process was a success.

At the same time, Steve Griffith and a Captain in the agency were finishing up their master’s degrees. As the end of study project, a “cook book” approach to assessment centers was developed. This manual detailed how to build, validate, conduct and score an assessment center project. That was in 1988. Ever since that time, Steve Griffith has been conducting assessment centers across Fire, Police, Dispatch, City Administration and University/College Settings. Built correctly; validated correctly; administered correctly; and scored correctly; an assessment center is the best tool available for measuring an individual’s ability to perform in a position.

Steve Griffith has a team of professionals who work to maintain the quality of selection and testing processes that have been a hallmark of Steve Griffith Consulting for over 25 years.

Tim Griffith, Steve’s son, is a Law Enforcement professional in Central Texas who has worked with his Dad for several years. Alan Storck, a Fire Administrator in the Dallas Metroplex, has worked with Steve for over 15 years. Mark Ashmead, also a Dallas Metroplex administrator, is the newest member of the Steve Griffith Consulting team. Combined, we have over 100 years of public safety experience. That experience is the key for developing Assessment and Testing processes that are job related.
